A peer organization's news crisis required CARE to publicly report its number of cases and its approach to prevention, investigation and resolution of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse complaints.
As part of the response, CARE formed a project team to redouble its focus on internal trainings and procedures. I was responsible for knowledge- and culture-building across various channels and levels of the organization. as well as web content and executive updates to employees.
CARE took action upon news that the US President used a derogatory term to refer to developing countries. External relations teams
carefully leveraged the moment to advance advocacy for USAID.
Meanwhile, thousands of CARE employees were demoralized by the news. Our internal communications response celebrated the contributions and success of these countries, demonstrated the solidarity of colleagues
across the world, and spotlighted the public actions CARE was taking
(leveraging staff as social media champions of the advocacy effort).
